The Power of Collaboration

In the year 2012, I was in my final year at the University, writing the final paper.

I didn’t understand the course. I tried to study it but it wasn’t sinking in.

So I gave up on it.

The morning we would write the paper, I decided to go into the examination hall, fail the course….and go through an extra year.

But, Dimeji, my best friend, wouldn’t have it. He insisted on teaching me the course that morning (before the examination started).

He gave me a crash lesson in the course. I did all I could, went into the examination hall…and passed that course in flying colors.

I didn’t bag an extra year after all.

Then in 2014, I was new to online marketing.

I had been writing for a while, but I didn’t know how to set up a website.

I found someone who did.

Tope Olofin, I think.

She helped me to set up my first (and even second) website.

That was how I began my journey into digital marketing.

The truth is:

I couldn’t possibly tell my success story without mentioning these two people.

I’m glad they came into my life.

Dimeji saved me an extra year in the University.

Tope saved me months of struggling to build a website on my own.

What’s the lesson here?

No matter how hard you try, you will not succeed all by yourself.

I don’t care if you aren’t a “people person”…

….if you don’t have space for people in your life, you’ll struggle to achieve long-lasting success.

God built us this earthly community for a reason: because we need each other.

If the work in your business is becoming overwhelming, you may need to outsource or delegate some tasks.

You don’t always have to do everything or BE everything.

You are not going to be the sales manager, content creator, and marketing strategist…all at the same time.

You have your strengths. You have your weaknesses.

There are others whose strengths complement your weaknesses, and vice versa.

If you don’t know this, you’ll keep struggling for nothing.

Your business will fail. And eventually, your health may, too.

There’s this Asian proverb I read once:

“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”

Personal/business success isn’t going to happen by your own strength alone.

You’ll need the help of two, three…even hundred people…to truly succeed.

You better start with the person next to you.
